“Writing is listening and the courage to wait, however long it takes for the right word to appear.  This is why the best poems contain silence, contain time.”

            -Martin Edmunds, poet

SHADOW DANCING

walking westward
in the time of bird migrations
and cool shadows
the sunrise an amber wash of light
against our backs
her shadow touching mine
merging for a moment
and forever
here on this page
shadow dancing

“Art is at the core of our most intimate being and a part of the nature of things as surely as is a tree, a lake, a cloud.  When we ignore it, even as spectators, we deaden ourselves in this brief transit.”

            -Jim Harrison
