BLESS YOU

she said
after I sneezed
drinking coffee then a beer
in The Bourgeois Pig
under the fury of John Brown’s gaze
like Moses parting the Red Sea
but instead of a staff
hammer and sickle
perhaps understood by these two words
Lawrence

THE WIND

blew fifty last night.
Not a tree in sight
to slow its race from Gulf Coast waters.
Blown down,
every trash can in town.
Detritus strewn in the dark streets, stinking.
My recycle bin
GONE.
The garbage men deserve a raise.
